Taking Back Your Power

Have you ever done something for someone in order to feel included, valued or appreciated, even though it went against what you believed or wanted to do? Have you ever let a situation out of your control cause you to feel intense emotion or anger? 

We may not realize it, but in that moment you are giving away your power. And when you give away your power you are distancing from yourself. When we distance from ourselves, we are creating a distrust within us. Put simply, your mind is saying “You aren’t listening to your intuition, so that must mean you no longer trust your intuition.” Once you stop trusting your intuition, that’s when you start to feel lost, alone and even angry with yourself.

But how can we recognize when we’re giving away our power? It’s not always spelled out for us and giving away our power can look differently for so many situations.

The best way to tell if you’re giving away your power is if you find yourself second guessing whether you actually want to do something or not. Are you doing something just to satisfy someone else, or you feel like you have to for the people around you? Another great way is if you find yourself intensely reacting to something that you don’t have control over. A simple example is getting cut off in traffic and becoming very angry. The person in the other car may never know how angry you are, and you gave away some of your power by reacting to something that has no effect on them.

Obviously we cannot always control these things, we are human after all. And sometimes the situations we are in are inevitable and it’s okay to feel your emotions. But if you become aware of how you’re reacting in situations and start listening to your intuition again, you might find yourself making better decisions and becoming happier with yourself.

Power isn’t necessarily only something that your ego loves, but it’s important for our survival. It’s how we distinguish if we’re in toxic and manipulative relationships. It gives us the autonomy of our own lives. Power is something we need to validate our emotions and stand up for ourselves in situations that are not serving our higher good. 

Listed below are some great ways to take back your power today:

  1. Forgive yourself: Practice forgiveness when you find yourself giving away your power. Remember that you’re human and we’re here to learn and grow.
  2. Remove the victim narrative: If you are constantly thinking that life is happening to you and not for you, you will become stuck in the same patterns.
  3. Be okay with being different: When you stand up for yourself or express yourself the way you want to, independent of others’ thoughts, you might appear different and that is okay.
  4. Find self worth without validation from others: If you’re constantly looking around you for validation in order to feel worthy, you are making your worth external and apart from you. If you can sit alone and be okay with yourself, your emotions and your thoughts, you have taken a huge step in taking back your power.
  5. Accept how you feel: Whatever you’re feeling in that moment, accept the emotions and recognize that those feelings won’t last forever.
  6. Focus on the positive: This will help raise your vibration and create an atmosphere of gratitude.
  7. Create boundaries: Boundaries let people know what they can and cannot do with or to you. This may be the biggest step in taking back your power and creating a life filled with healthy relationships.
  8. Know your values: And stick to them!

What is visualization and how does it work?

What is visualization? Visualization is a type of mindfulness practice that allows our brains to visualize a scenario or situation that we want to happen. For example, you want to do well in an interview and get the job. You can visualize yourself confidently going through the interview process, getting the call that you got the job, and what it looks like once you have the job.

 

How can we visualize effectively? The best way to visualize is by feeling the emotions you would feel if the event already happened the way you wanted it to. Would you feel gratitude? Would you feel excited? Would you feel happy? Focus on those emotions and try to keep your mood at that level even past the visualization.

 

How does this work? When we visualize a future event, we are putting our present selves in the frequency of that event. This aligns us with the frequency of our desires and creates the pathway for it to happen. Visualization accesses your creative subconscious, which will create scenarios to get you to that goal. It also programs your brain to notice more opportunities that are aligned with your goals.

 

Many people use this technique for manifestation. Some people call it a mental rehearsal, where they visualize themselves in a movie theater and on the screen is the scenario they want to manifest. They watch themselves on the screen, from what they’re wearing down to their facial expressions. Then they visualize themselves opening a door on the screen and entering it, placing themselves in the movie of their visualization. 

 

Some great ways to support your visualizations is through actual visual reminders, like a vision board. This can create subconscious pathways in your brain to focus on your goals. You can also tie affirmations to your goals and recite them a few times a day. This also helps rewire your brain to attract your goals.

 

Once you have completed your visualization technique, release your desire to the universe, knowing that it has already come true and it will find you in divine timing.

 

Here’s a checklist of what to do for your visualization practice:

 

  1. Meditate before visualizing to clear your mind
  2. Think about what you want to manifest, think of every detail, every emotion and every thought.
  3. Place yourself in that visualization and allow yourself to feel the emotion if it had already happened.
  4. Create a vision board that will be a guide for your subconscious to manifest your goals/desires.
  5. Recite daily affirmations that help bring you to the frequency of your goals.
  6. Release the desire and trust that the universe will provide your manifestation through divine timing.

What is Your Neural Network?

Everything in the human body works together. Our nervous system, our limbic system, our lymphatic system, our organs, our muscles, everything functions innately with every cell and atom of your body. So when one thing is imbalanced, or you’re experiencing a certain emotion for a long time, your whole body will be affected by this issue.

Everyone is constantly being exposed to outside factors that may affect the body. Our society is always living at a certain level of fight or flight, activating our cortisol levels and creating adrenal fatigue. This alone can cause imbalances.

We are also exposed to more on a daily basis through our phones than our ancestors were exposed to their whole lives. The information overload and constant stimulation can also interfere with our hormones and nervous system.

Mental health diagnoses have increased exponentially over the years and the United States has become one of the most medicated nations. The more you think a thought, the more nerves grow to create that belief, and those beliefs can turn into different ailments in your body. What you think is what you become. This means that whatever frequency you are thinking consistently, can also be the same frequency as certain diseases.

That neural network carries that specific disease, sickness, ailment throughout your body and you are living in that negative frequency and that disease. If you feel trapped by a condition, we need to start by changing the frequency of the body and that starts by changing your thoughts and changing your belief system. Once your beliefs change, your perception of reality changes.

It’s important to remember that you have control over your life, you have control over your thoughts and you can change at any point. The first steps to creating a new neural network is by being intentional with your day to day life. See how you feel when you do things, what thoughts are you thinking, how could you be kinder and more forgiving to yourself? The second step is to journal, meditate and find a practice that centers and grounds you. Speaking affirmations and doing some shadow work will help get to the root beliefs.

Managing Your Energy During The Holidays

This year has brought a lot of hectic energy and emotions to the surface for many people. If you are someone who is highly empathetic, or in tune with other people’s emotions this year may have been extra tough for you. From watching the news, to being stuck inside with people and no time to be alone, you might feel drained.

We all have a field of energy. Some people’s energy fields are more sensitive than others. They might need more alone time to recharge. They might also have a hard time being around certain people because they absorb their emotions and energy.

When the holidays roll around, we connect with family members and friends more frequently. Whether you are celebrating the holidays in person or over zoom, you can still absorb some of the energy of those you are around. Fortunately there are a few things you can do to manage your energy and prevent yourself from absorbing other people’s emotions.

Meditate before and after: It’s important to make sure you are balanced and feeling refreshed before you enter a situation that may make you feel drained. Spend a couple minutes meditating before the event to ground yourself.
Affirmations: Keep a few affirmations in mind to recite if you feel yourself becoming overwhelmed. For example: “I am calm and centered.” “I only take in what resonates with me and I leave the rest.”
Selenite: Selenite is a crystal that instills peace. By keeping a small piece of selenite on or near you, you will feel calmer and more at peace.
Breathwork: If you find yourself getting overwhelmed, step into a quiet room and take a few deep breaths through your diaphragm. This will give your body more oxygen and create a clearer headspace.
Salt bath: After an event, take a few minutes to unwind when you come home. Take a salt bath infused with your favorite essential oils to remove any lingering negative energy.

What does it mean to be in alignment?

Alignment is when we are living within our soul’s purpose. It can feel like every aspect of life is exactly how you want it to be, and alignment is typically accompanied with an abundance of gratitude, love and peace. However, when we are out of alignment with our soul’s purpose we can feel negative, sick, impatient and frustrated. Things might feel heavy, or no matter how hard you try things don’t seem to go your way.

So how do we get into alignment?

It’s first important to understand that the reason we aren’t in alignment is due to societal conditioning. This can be from ways of thinking that you were taught as a child, or what we are told to believe as good or bad. For example, when you were asked what you wanted to be when you grew up, and you answered “An NFL player.” or “An Oscar winning actress.” were you met with laughs and doubt? That can make you believe that those dreams aren’t possible and they are crazy to think. When in reality, that is what your soul dreamed of at the time.

Dreams can certainly change, but you may have oppressed your truest desires because you didn’t think they were practical or possible or you were feared of being judged.

Many people think this way and they take a route in life that is more practical or “easier to accomplish.” This can absorb more of your energy than you realize because you are working harder towards something that isn’t aligned with your soul’s purpose.

Getting into alignment isn’t accomplished just by one step, but by doing a bunch of little things that feel good to you. If you want to be an artist, pick up a paintbrush for fun one day. If you want to live somewhere warm, start researching and visiting places. Getting into alignment is about taking little steps that feel good to you and make you excited and inspired. The universe will take care of the rest.
